The Thumboormuzhi Dam & Butterfly Garden is a beautifully developed eco-tourism site located downstream from Athirappilly and Vazhachal. This site is centered around a check dam built across the Chalakudy River for irrigation purposes. The main attraction is the Butterfly Garden, which is a dedicate d habitat and viewing area for numerous butterfly species. This meticulously maintained garden hosts specific nectar and host plants, attracting over 140 species, including the colorful Southern Birdwing and the majestic Common Rose. The garden offers a vibrant, educational, and tranquil experience, especially during the peak butterfly seasons. Another major highlight is the Thumboormuzhi Hanging Bridge (suspension bridge), which spans the Chalakudy River and connects the Thrissur district side (where the garden is located) to the Ernakulam district side, known as Ezhattumukham Prakriti Gramam (Nature Village). Walking across this bridge provides a stunning panoramic view of the river, the dam, and the surrounding lush greenery. The site also features a clean, well-equipped children's park and a general garden area, making it a perfect, safe, and family-friendly spot. Unlike the falls, which focus on raw natural power, Thumboormuzhi emphasizes a controlled, peaceful, and interactive natural environment. It is an ideal stop for those traveling back from the waterfalls towards Kochi or Chalakudy, offering a change of pace and scenery.:
