Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary

Nagaon, Assam, India
Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary is a sprawling protected area covering approximately 70.13 square kilometers in the Nagaon district. Situated on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River, it acts as a critical ecological buffer for the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve. The landscape is a mesmerizing mix of tal l elephant grass, riverine forests, and numerous seasonal wetlands known as beels. Historically, this sanctuary was famous for its population of the Great Indian One-horned Rhinoceros and Wild Water Buffalo. Visitors can witness the raw beauty of the Assamese floodplains while exploring its diverse ecosystems. The sanctuary remains a symbol of conservation resilience in the central Assam region.
