Silghat

Nagaon, Assam, India
Silghat is a scenic river port and small town located on the southern bank of the mighty Brahmaputra River in the Kaliabor subdivision. It is historically significant as a strategic location during the Ahom-Mughal wars and later as a major river terminal during the British era. The town is nestled between lush green hills and the vast river, offering some of the most stunning views in the district. Silghat is home to several ancient temples, including the Kamakhya Temple on a hillock and the Trishuldhari temple. It is also known for the Assam Cooperative Jute Mill, the only one of its kind in the cooperative sector in India. The area serves as a gateway to the Kaziranga National Park and is a popular picnic spot for locals during the winter months. The panoramic view of the Kolia Bhomora Setu bridge connecting Nagaon to Tezpur can be seen from the river banks here. It is a perfect blend of history, industry, and natural beauty.
