Established by the Portuguese in 1614, this cathedral is the pro-cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Qu ilon, which holds the distinction of being the oldest Catholic diocese in India. The site was once part of the San Thome Fort, a fortified city built by Albuquerque, and has seen the influence of Portuguese, Dutch, and British rulers. Spiritual and Cultural Hub: This sacred space has hosted legendary figures like St. Francis Xavier, who established the San Salvadore College here to train catechists. The church is not just a place of worship but a living museum of the colonial era, featuring a blend of diverse cultural aesthetics.
