History and Vision: Sayaji Baug, also known locally as Kamati Baug, is one of the largest public parks in Western India. It was built in 1879 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III as a gift to the citizens of Baroda State, reflecting his progressive vision for public spaces, education, and recreation. I t was named after him. Multi-faceted Complex: The expansive, 113-acre park is far more than just a garden. It is a comprehensive cultural and recreational complex that includes the Baroda Museum & Picture Gallery, the Sayaji Baug Zoo, the Sardar Patel Planetarium, the Museum of Health, and an operational toy train. Legacy and Environment: The park is situated on the banks of the Vishwamitri River. It is meticulously maintained by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) and features beautiful, sprawling lawns, numerous statues (including a famous floral clock), and nearly a hundred species of trees, making it a crucial green lung for the city.
