Serlui B Dam

Tamdil, Mizoram, India
Serlui B Dam is a magnificent earth-fill and gravity dam built across the Serlui River in the northern part of Mizoram. This dam is not only a vital source of hydroelectric power, with a capacity of 12 MW, but has also evolved into one of the state's most popular tourist destinations. Construction o f the dam began in 2003 and was completed in 2009 by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. The dam has created a massive, scenic reservoir that stretches for about 53 kilometers, winding through thick forests and emerald hills. This vast body of water has become a thriving center for pisciculture, with lakhs of fish released into the reservoir, providing a livelihood for many local families and generating significant revenue for the state. For tourists, the draw is the sheer beauty of the vast blue water set against the backdrop of dense tropical vegetation. The state government has recognized its potential and established a beautiful tourist lodge at the site, which was inaugurated in 2018. The area around the dam is perfect for boating, offering a peaceful way to explore the hidden coves and inlets of the reservoir. The air here is fresh and the environment is remarkably calm, making it a favorite spot for weekend getaways from Aizawl and Kolasib. Historically, the construction of the dam led to the relocation of the Builum village, and the stories of the local people add a layer of human depth to the engineering project. Whether you are interested in the technical aspects of power generation or simply want to enjoy a sunset over the water, Serlui B Dam offers a unique blend of man-made progress and natural beauty. It is a place where you can watch the reflections of the hills ripple in the clear water while enjoying the hospitality of the Mizo people.
