Shree Krishna Swami Temple

Neyyattinkara, Kerala, India
The Shree Krishna Swami Temple in Neyyattinkara is a spiritual beacon and a historical landmark founded in 1755 by the legendary King Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma. The temple's origin is tied to a miraculous escape of the King from his enemies, the Ettuveettil Pillamar. Legend says a young boy guided the King to hide inside the hollow of a massive jackfruit tree, which the King later believed was Lord Krishna himself. Today, the temple is managed by the Travancore Devaswom Board and remains one of the most visited shrines in South Kerala. The presiding deity is Unnikannan (the infant Krishna), known for his compassionate gaze. The temple complex is expansive and filled with lush greenery, providing a serene atmosphere for meditation and prayer. It is often referred to as the "Guruvayur of the South" due to its sanctity and the large number of daily devotees. The temple is situated on the banks of the Neyyar River, adding to its spiritual charm. A unique feature of this temple is the preservation of the historical jackfruit tree, known as Ammachi Plavu, which is now a protected historical monument. Devotees flock here to offer Thrikayil Venna (butter), which is considered the most sacred offering to the deity. The temple serves as a cultural hub for the town, hosting various classical music and dance performances during its annual festival. :
