Shyama Mai Temple
The Shyama Mai Temple, officially Rameshwari Shyama Mai Temple, is one of the most revered temples in Bihar, dedicated to Goddess Kali (Shyama Mai is a form of Shakti). Its construction is unique and highly significant: it was built in 1933 AD by Maharaja Kameshwar Singh on the chita (cremation spot ) of his father, Maharaja Rameshwar Singh. The entire complex, known as Madheshwar Campus, serves as the cremation ground for the Raj Darbhanga royal family, with several other temples built atop other pyres. The main deity is a large, imposing, ten-foot-high black idol of Ma Shyama (Kali) and the temple features tantric symbols on its ceiling, believed to create positive energy.
