Tapovan, which literally translates to "forest of penance," is a serene and spiritually significant place in the Garhwal Himalayas. The trek to Tapovan usually involves a moderate hike from a roadhead near Joshimath, making it relatively accessible compared to the inner sanctuary of Nanda Devi.
