Traditional Zeliangrong houses are typically rectangular with high-pitched thatched roofs made of dry palm leaves or local grass to withstand heavy monsoon rains. Dimensions for a standard tribal dwelling often measure around 30 feet in length and 15 feet in width, featuring a raised wooden platform to protect against damp earth and wild animals.
Community Morungs and Totems: The most significant architectural features are the village gates and the Morungs (youth dormitories), which are decorated with intricate wood carvings of buffalo heads and hornbills. These carvings signify the status of the village and the prowess of its hunters. Modern structures in the Tousem HQ follow a more functional government style with CGI sheet roofing, yet the older sections of the village still maintain the majestic, earth-bound aesthetics of traditional Naga craftsmanship. -
