Travel Tips Of Edithanur Cave
Medak, Telangana, India
Edithanur Cave is a remarkable archaeological site that offers a window into the Neolithic and Mesolithic eras of human history. These natural rock shelters are famous for their ancient rock paintings and carvings, which depict the lifestyle, hunting practices, and social structures of prehistoric man. The site consists of a series of granite boulders piled naturally to form small tunnels and chambers. Historically, these caves served as a refuge for early humans, and later, during the Megalithic period, the area was used for burials as evidenced by the presence of Cairns and Dolmens nearby. The paintings, rendered in red ochre, showcase figures of animals and humans, making it a critical site for researchers and history enthusiasts. Visiting this place feels like stepping back 7,000 years into the past, as the silence of the hills echoes with ancient stories. Despite its immense historical value, the site remains relatively untouched by heavy commercial tourism, preserving its raw and mystical atmosphere for those willing to trek the rocky terrain.
