Northbrook Gate is a majestic brick structure located on the banks of the Brahmaputra in the heart of Guwahati. It was constructed in 1874 specifically to welcome the British Viceroy, Lord Northbrook, during his visit to the region. This gate is the only surviving colonial-era brick monument of its kind in Assam and is often referred to as the "Gateway of Assam." The gate is strategically positioned near the Sukreswar Ghat, where the Viceroy's ship anchored.
