Ulavi Temple

Dandeli, Karnataka, India
Ulavi Temple is one of the most significant pilgrimage centers in Karnataka, specifically for the Lingayat community. It houses the Samadhi of Shri Channabasavanna, a 12th-century saint and nephew of the great social reformer Basavanna. The temple is nestled deep within the forests of the Western G hats, providing a spiritually uplifting environment. The journey to the temple itself is an adventure, passing through winding roads and dense canopy. Legend says that Channabasavanna fled to the safety of these forests after the revolution in Kalyana. Apart from the main shrine, the area is surrounded by several ancient caves like Akala Gavi and Vibhooti Kanive, which are associated with the lives of the Sharanas. The temple architecture and the tranquil forest setting make it a unique destination that blends faith with nature. Thousands of devotees flock here during the annual Ulavi Jathre festival.
