Umdihlud Falls

Mairang, Meghalaya, India
A Virgin Landscape: Umdihlud Falls is one of the most underrated waterfalls in the Mairang region. It is characterized by its high, narrow drop that resembles a silver thread hanging from the green cliffs. The area around the falls is mostly untouched by commercial tourism, offering a raw experience of the Khasi hills. The water is ice-cold and originates from the high plateaus above Mairang. The mist created by the falling water keeps the surrounding area lush even during the dry months. It is located slightly off the main highway, making it a quiet escape for weary travelers. The surrounding forest is dense and filled with diverse plant life, including medicinal herbs used by local Khasi healers. Reaching the base of the falls requires a bit of an adventurous scramble down a slope, which adds to the excitement for trekkers. It is a place where you can truly hear the voice of the mountains without any urban noise.:
