Vishnupad Temple

Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India
The Vishnupad Temple is a revered Hindu temple located on the banks of the Falgu River in Gaya, approximately 12 kilometers from Bodh Gaya. While not a Buddhist site, it holds great religious significance and is an important destination for many tourists visiting the area. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is famous for a 40-centimeter-long footprint of the deity, encased in a silver-plated basin. It is believed that this footprint marks the spot where Lord Vishnu subdued the demon Gayasur. The temple's present structure was built in 1787 by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore. The temple is a major center for Hindu rituals, particularly Pind Daan, a ceremony performed for the salvation of departed ancestors.
