Ayyanar Falls

Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, India
Ayyanar Falls is a hidden natural treasure tucked away in the dense forests of the Karanthimalai range near Natham. This waterfall is named after the local deity, Lord Ayyanar, whose small temple is situated right at the foot of the falls. The water cascades down from a height of about 15 feet, for ming a cool, refreshing pool where visitors can enjoy a safe bath. To reach the falls, one has to trek through a scenic forest path, which adds an element of adventure to the trip. The surrounding woods are rich in biodiversity, and lucky visitors might spot various species of butterflies and forest birds. The sound of the falling water combined with the chirping of birds creates a meditative atmosphere. During the monsoon season, the volume of water increases significantly, creating a thunderous sound that can be heard from a distance. The area is a popular weekend picnic spot for local families who come here to escape the heat of the plains. Because it is located within a reserve forest area, the environment is pristine and relatively untouched by urban pollution. The trek to the falls is moderate and can be completed by people of all ages. The path is shaded by tall trees, making the walk pleasant even during the daytime. It is a perfect spot for those who love nature photography and trekking. The local villagers consider the water to have medicinal properties because it flows through various herbal plants in the forest. Visiting Ayyanar Falls is like stepping into a green paradise where nature is at its best.
