Brahma-dung-chung Ani Gompa

Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, India
Spiritual Sanctuary: This ancient nunnery, also known as Thukje Chueling, is one of the few nunneries in the region run entirely by female monks (Anis). It was founded by Lama Karchen Yeshi Gelek in 1956 with the aim of providing spiritual training for young women from the Monpa community. The name Brahma-dung-chung translates to 'pure land of Brahma' in Tibetan. Life of the Anis: Home to around 45 nuns, the gompa is a center for Buddhist study, solitary meditation, and traditional craft. The nuns live a life of dedication, supported entirely by donations, maintaining unique rituals specific to their order, fostering a unique female spiritual lineage. (400 words)
