Dumboor Lake

Agartala, Tripura, India
Dumboor Lake is a magnificent water body located at the confluence of the Raima and Saima rivers. The lake gets its name from its shape, which resembles a "dumboor," a small drum-shaped percussion instrument of Lord Shiva. Covering an area of 41 square kilometers, the lake is a true natural wonder, dotted with 48 enchanting islets. The surrounding hills and the islets are draped in emerald-green foliage, creating a captivating scenic spectacle. During winter, the lake becomes a significant wetland habitat, attracting hundreds of migratory birds, much to the delight of ornithologists and tourists. A hydel project is located near the lake, at the point where the Gomati River originates, an area known as Tirthamukh. This site is of great religious importance, as a large fair is held here every year on Pous Sankranti (around January 14th). The lake offers excellent boating facilities, allowing visitors to explore its serene waters and numerous small islands. One of the islands, Narkel Kunja, has been developed for tourists and offers a unique experience. Dumboor Lake is a perfect destination for those seeking tranquility, natural beauty, and a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. The combination of its vast size, picturesque islets, and vibrant birdlife makes it a top-tier ecotourism destination.
