FAQs On Chagzam Bridge

Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, India
Historical Architecture: The Chagzam Bridge is a remarkable feat of ancient engineering, built in the 14th century by the great Tibetan iron bridge builder, Thangtong Gyalpo (also known as the Iron Chain Lama). It is one of the few surviving original iron chain suspension bridges built by him in the Himalayan region. The bridge uses thick, linked iron chains for its suspension and flooring, demonstrating medieval Monpa/Tibetan craftsmanship. Cultural Link: It served as a vital link for trade and pilgrimage routes for centuries, connecting remote villages across the powerful Tawang Chu river. (400 words)
