How To Reach Padmini's Palace

Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, India
Padmini's Palace is a three-storied white structure situated amidst a beautiful lotus pool, embodying the architectural style of a Jal Mahal (Water Palace). Although the current structure is largely a 19th-century reconstruction of the original, it remains one of the most significant sites in the fo rt due to its association with the legendary Rani Padmini, the wife of Rawal Ratan Singh. According to the popular and dramatic folklore, it was here that Alauddin Khilji was permitted a glimpse of the Queen's reflection in a mirror (or a water body) before he became consumed by his desire for her, which ultimately led to the devastating siege of 1303 AD and the first Jauhar. The palace's design, surrounded by a moat, was intended to provide a cool, defensible, and aesthetically pleasing residence. The palace stands as a poignant memorial to a queen whose story is a core part of Rajput identity, symbolizing beauty, virtue, and ultimate sacrifice for honor. Visiting the site provides a deep emotional connection to the most famous tale of Chittorgarh. (Word Count: ~150/400)

How to Reach

By Air:

Via Udaipur: The journey starts by flying into Maharana Pratap Airport (UDR) in Udaipur (approx. 90-100 KMS). From there, a taxi or private vehicle is the best way to reach Chittorgarh city. Once at the fort's main gate (Ram Pol), you must hire local transport or drive your vehicle to the southern end of the fort where the palace is situated.

By Train:

Via Chittorgarh Station: Arrive at Chittorgarh Railway Station (COR). From the station, take an auto-rickshaw or taxi to the fort's entrance (7 KM). Within the fort, the distance to the palace (approx. 1. 5 KM from the inner circuit road) requires local transport (hired car or auto-rickshaw), as walking is long and tiring.

By Road:

Direct Drive/Bus: If arriving by road, either in a private vehicle or a bus from cities like Jaipur or Udaipur, you will reach the lower town of Chittorgarh. From there, follow the main winding road up the hill to the seven gates. After entering the fort, follow the circular road towards the southern end to reach the palace's parking area.

By Local Transport:

Inner Fort Travel: Local taxis and auto-rickshaws wait at the foot of the fort and at the Ram Pol. Negotiate a fixed price for a full-fort tour that includes stops at the Padmini Palace, Vijay Stambh, and Gaumukh Kund. This mode is the most practical for internal fort travel.
