How To Reach Adinath Temple

Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, India
Historical Significance of Adinath Temple: This 11th-century temple is part of the Jain Group of Temples in Khajuraho, dedicated to Lord Adinath (or Rishabh Dev), the first Jain Tirthankara. Built during the Chandela Dynasty, it stands next to the Parsvanath Temple. While partially ruined, it is sti ll an active site of worship for the Jain community. The temple's exterior features a single band of finely carved sculptures, including sura-sundaris (celestial maidens), and notably lacks the complex erotic carvings typical of the Western Group. Its construction reflects a shift in artistic focus within the Chandela period, prioritizing the depiction of various deities and celestial beings over mithuna scenes. Many broken and whole Jain statues with valuable dated inscriptions were collected from the vicinity, aiding in historical dating.

How to Reach

By Air: Fly to Khajuraho Airport (HJR), then take a pre-paid taxi or auto-rickshaw (5-7 KMS) to the temple complex.

By Train: Arrive at Khajuraho Railway Station (KURJ), then take an auto-rickshaw or taxi (3-4 KMS) to the Eastern Group of Temples. Satna Railway Station (STA) is a major railhead (116 KMS) for long-distance trains, followed by a taxi.

By Road: Khajuraho is well-connected by State and National Highways. Government and private buses run from major cities like Jabalpur, Satna, and Jhansi. The temple is easily accessible via the main road in the village.

By Local Transport: The best way to reach the Eastern Group from the town center is by auto-rickshaw, bicycle (available for rent), or on foot due to the short distance.
