The Ajatshatru Fort is an ancient historical monument in Rajgir, believed to have been constructed by King Ajatshatru of the Magadha Empire around the 6th century BCE, making it over 2500 years old. It served as a strategic military outpost and possibly a royal residence. The fort's construction is contemporary to the time of Lord Buddha and is considered one of the oldest known forts in India. How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Gaya International Airport (GAY), approximately 78 KMs away, with decent connectivity. Patna's Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Airport (PAT) is a larger hub, about 110 KMs away, offering more flight options. From either airport, one must hire a pre-paid taxi or a reliable cab service to reach Rajgir, which takes approximately 2 to 3 hours by road depending on traffic conditions and the chosen route.

By Train: The most convenient station is Rajgir Railway Station (RGD), which is well-connected to major cities like Patna and Howrah (Kolkata). From the station, the fort is just a short 10-15 minute ride. Alternatively, Gaya Junction (GAYA) is a major railway hub, and from there, one can take a local train or bus to Rajgir.

By Road: Rajgir is well-connected by National Highway NH 120 and State Highways. Regular state and private bus services run from Patna, Gaya, and Nalanda. Driving to the fort is straightforward, and the ruins are situated just off the main road within the town limits.

By Local Transport: Within Rajgir, the fort is easily reached by auto-rickshaws, cycle-rickshaws, or hired taxis. Due to its central location, it is a very quick and inexpensive ride from most parts of Rajgir town, including the main bus stand and railway station.
