How To Reach Ambadevi Temple

Amravati, Maharashtra, India
This very old Hindu temple, situated in the heart of Amravati, is dedicated to Goddess Ambadevi, an incarnation of Durga. Mythological Significance: Legend says that Lord Krishna famously eloped with Rukmini, the daughter of King Bhishmak of Vidarbha, from this temple before her forced marriage to S hishupala. The city of Amravati itself is believed to derive its name from the goddess, translating to 'City of the Immortals'. It is a key spiritual center for the entire Vidarbha region, drawing lakhs of devotees, especially during major festivals, making it one of the most revered sites in Maharashtra. The current structure has undergone several renovations, but its deep historical roots, possibly dating back to the 14th century, are evidenced by older inscriptions and traditional narratives. A Center of Faith: Beyond daily prayers, the temple serves as a focal point for the community, preserving cultural traditions and fostering a sense of deep spiritual connection. Its peaceful inner sanctum offers a serene escape despite its bustling city location, allowing for an uninterrupted darshan (viewing) of the deity. The association with the Shilahara dynasty hints at its ancient pedigree and continuous importance over centuries.:
