How To Reach Darap Village

Pelling, Sikkim, India
Introduction and Location: Darap Village, often called Darap Cherry Village, is a tranquil and gently sloped hamlet located just 8 KMS from the bustling town of Pelling in West Sikkim. The name Darap is believed to originate from the Limboo word 'Tan-lop,' meaning a plain or even land, which is apt for its relatively flat landscape compared to other hilly areas. Community and Culture: It is predominantly inhabited by the Limboo community, along with other ethnic groups like the Bhutias, Chettris, Tamangs, and Rais, who live in harmony. The village is a living example of traditional Sikkimese rural life and a successful model for community-based village tourism. Guests are welcomed to stay in authentic homestays, offering a firsthand experience of the local culture, traditions, and hospitality. Natural Surroundings: The village is surrounded by terraced paddy fields, vast cardamom plantations, and lush green hills, offering mesmerizing, distant views of the Kanchenjunga range on clear days. The air is fresh and the pace of life is slow, making it an ideal retreat for those seeking peace and a break from the urban rush. Activities in the village revolve around the simple, organic lifestyle, including farming, cattle herding, and learning indigenous skills.
