How To Reach Jawahar Gate Fort

Amravati, Maharashtra, India
Jawahar Gate Fort is one of the surviving historic city gates (Darwaja) of the old walled city of Amravati, originally built during the reign of the Bhosle dynasty in the 18th century to fortify the city. Historical Landmark: It stands as a significant landmark, representing the architecture and def ense planning of the Maratha and Nizam era in Vidarbha. It was historically the northern gateway to the city, leading towards the old trade routes. The original fortification included several such gates (like Nagpuri Gate, Amba Gate), of which Jawahar Gate is one of the most prominent surviving structures. Urban Integration: Today, the gate is fully integrated into the bustling commercial and residential area of Jawahar Road, but it still acts as a symbolic divider between the old and new parts of the city. Though the inner wooden door is gone, the stone arch and bastions remain, telling a silent story of the city's past defense and trade. It is important to note that it is a Gate structure, not a large hill fort, despite the historical use of the term 'Fort' to denote a fortified enclosure. Local Name: It is also sometimes referred to by its older local name, Bhusari Gate.:

By Road: The gate is located right on Jawahar Road, which is a central artery in the city. It is well-connected to all parts of Amravati and easily found. The Amravati Bus Stand is about 3 KMS away, with easy bus/auto-rickshaw access.

By Local Transport: Auto-rickshaws are the most common and best way to reach this crowded old city area. Direct access by large private car is difficult due to traffic; consider walking the last few hundred meters. :
