How To Reach Kaimur Hill Waterfall

Sasaram, Bihar, India
The Geographical Marvel of the Kaimur Range: The Kaimur Hill Waterfall is a collective term for the many seasonal cascades and significant permanent falls (like Dhuwan Kund and Manjhar Kund) that dot the eastern face of the Kaimur plateau near Sasaram; this specific entry focuses on the regional gra ndeur of the falls area, emphasizing the geological formation where the Kaimur Hills dramatically drop to the Gangetic plain, a major geographical feature of Bihar; the hills themselves are rich in historical and ecological significance, forming the boundary of the Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, including medicinal plants and several species of birds and mammals; the waterfall's presence is a result of the plateau's high elevation and the massive water catchment area, which channels runoff into deep gorges, leading to spectacular plunges during the heavy Monsoon season; the rugged, inaccessible nature of much of the surrounding terrain has kept the area pristine, offering an experience of raw, untouched wilderness; the journey to the most prominent falls within the Kaimur Hills involves a longer, more challenging trek than other local spots, appealing to true adventure enthusiasts, making it an escape into the heart of the Rohtas wilderness and an ideal spot for serious landscape photography.

How to Reach

By Air: Nearest major airports are Gaya (GAY) (approx. 130 KMS) or Patna (PAT) (approx. 170 KMS); from there, hire a reliable taxi for the 4-hour drive to Sasaram, and then an all-terrain vehicle for the rougher final stretch; By Train: The most convenient station is Sasaram Junction Railway Station (SSM); from the station, the distance is about 20 KMS, but the road conditions make it a significant journey; By Road (Specialized Vehicle Needed) From Sasaram, the journey requires a dedicated, powerful four-wheeler (jeep or SUV) and a local driver; the roads transition from paved to extremely rough, rocky, and forested tracks near Sikaria and Dhankadha villages, making the last 5-10 KMS very slow and difficult, especially in the Monsoon; By Local Transport: Public transport is virtually non-existent for the final stretch; pre-arranging a dedicated round-trip vehicle with a waiting time is a mandatory part of the travel planning for this remote destination, and the total travel time from Sasaram city center to the site and back (excluding the trek) can easily be 2. 5 to 3 hours; always ensure the driver is familiar with the Kaimur routes, as they can be confusing.
