Saraighat Bridge Details: The Saraighat Bridge is an iconic double-decker rail-cum-road bridge that spans the mighty Brahmaputra River, serving as a vital link between the northeastern states and the rest of mainland India. Inaugurated in the year 1963 by the then Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jaw aharlal Nehru, the bridge is a masterpiece of modern engineering and a symbol of regional connectivity. The bridge holds significant historical value as it is named after the historic Battle of Saraighat fought in 1671, where the Ahom General Lachit Borphukan successfully defended the region against the invading Mughal forces. How to Reach Saraighat Bridge:

By Air: From Guwahati airport, the bridge is only about 15 km away and is on the way to the city center. A pre-paid taxi is the most convenient option.

By Train: The bridge is very close to the Kamakhya Railway Station (about 3 km). You can take an auto-rickshaw or a city bus from the station to reach the bridge.

By Road: It is located on the main NH 27 that connects Guwahati to northern and western parts of Assam. All buses entering the city from the west must cross it.

By Local Transport: Guwahati city buses (Route No. 1 and others) frequently pass over the bridge. You can also hire an app-based cab like Uber or Ola for a comfortable trip.
