How To Reach Takhni Rehmapur Wildlife Sanctuary

Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India
The Takhni Rehmapur Wildlife Sanctuary is a sprawling natural reserve located at the foothills of the Shivalik range in the Hoshiarpur district. Spanning approximately 956 acres, the sanctuary is divided between the villages of Takhni (498 acres) and Rehmapur (458 acres). Established in 1993, this sanctuary serves as a critical conservation area for the dry deciduous forest ecosystem typical of the Punjab region. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, seasonal rivulets, and a diverse range of flora including Shisham, Kikar, and Khair trees. It offers a serene environment for nature enthusiasts and researchers who wish to study the biodiversity of the Kandi area. The sanctuary plays a vital role in preventing soil erosion in the hilly terrain while providing a safe habitat for numerous species of mammals, reptiles, and birds. Visitors can experience the raw beauty of the Shivalik peaks and enjoy the tranquility of the forest, which remains largely untouched by urban development. The area is also significant for its community-based conservation efforts, involving local villagers in the protection of wildlife. It is a perfect spot for those looking to escape the hustle of city life and immerse themselves in a lush, green environment.
