Beyond its celebrated fauna, Orang National Park is also a significant repository of indigenous flora, contributing to the rich biodiversity of the Assam plains. The park's vegetation is a dynamic mosaic of different habitat types, each supporting unique plant communities. Understanding these flora zones enhances the appreciation of the park's ecological complexity and how they sustain its diverse wildlife. The predominant vegetation type in Orang is moist alluvial grassland, dominated by tall elephant grass (Saccharum spontaneum and Phragmites karka). These grasslands are crucial for grazers like the One-Horned Rhinoceros and Hog Deer, providing both food and excellent camouflage. Interspersed within these grasslands are patches of riverine forests, particularly along the banks of the Pachnoi, Belsiri, and Dhansiri rivers. These forests consist of tropical semi-evergreen and moist deciduous trees, providing denser cover for animals like elephants and tigers, as well as crucial nesting sites for various bird species. Common tree species include Bombax ceiba (Red Silk Cotton tree), Dalbergia sissoo (Sissoo), and Acacia catechu. The park also contains numerous wetlands and beels (oxbow lakes) which support a rich diversity of aquatic vegetation, including water hyacinth, lotus, and various grasses and sedges that provide food and shelter for waterfowl and other aquatic animals.
