Jhumri Telaiya

Koderma, Jharkhand, India
Jhumri Telaiya is perhaps the most famous town in Jharkhand due to its unique cultural history. While it was originally a major mica mining hub, it gained national fame in the 1950s through Radio Ceylon. Residents of this town were so obsessed with film music that they sent thousands of postcards d aily to request songs on the radio, making the town's name a household word across India. The name is a combination of the original village Jhumri and the Telaiya dam lake. Today, it is a bustling commercial center that still retains its nostalgic charm, with old mica bungalows and vibrant local markets.
