Makamaro Hills

Koderma, Jharkhand, India
Details: Makamaro Hills, often called Makamaro Pahar, is a site of immense mythological and geological significance. Located near the village of Dhab, these hills are part of the rugged terrain that defines the Koderma landscape. According to local legend and Hindu mythology, this is the place where Lord Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Vishnu, performed the difficult task of killing his mother and brothers on the command of his father, the sage Jamdagni. It is said he later performed penance here to cleanse himself. This background makes the hills a major pilgrimage spot for devotees. Beyond the legend, the hills offer a stunning natural escape. The altitude provides a panoramic view of the surrounding Mica mines and the backwaters of the Tilaiya reservoir. The area is relatively untouched by modern commercialization, offering a raw and authentic experience of the Jharkhand wilderness. It is an excellent spot for light trekking and exploring the local folklore through conversations with the village elders.
