Mayuranathaswamy Temple
The Mayuranathaswamy Temple is a magnificent Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the bustling town of Mayiladuthurai. The name of the temple originates from a legend where Goddess Parvati, in the form of a peahen (Mayura), worshipped Lord Shiva here. This temple is one of the celebrate d Paadal Petra Sthalams, mentioned in the Tevaram hymns of the 7th century. The presiding deity is worshipped as Mayuranathar, and his consort is Abhayambikai.
