Ningthoukhong Town

Bishnupur, Manipur, India
Details: Ningthoukhong is a historical and commercially important town in Bishnupur district, known for its rich spiritual heritage and its pivotal role during World War II. It is a major center for the worship of local Meitei deities such as Ibudhou Oknarel, Ibudhou Thangnarel, and Ibudhou Panganba , alongside Hindu temples like Gopinath Mandir. Historically, the town was a central point of intense fighting during the Battle of Imphal in 1944, caught between the advancing INA/Japanese forces from the south (Moirang) and the defending British forces from the north (Maibam Lokpa Ching). The town was tragically destroyed but rebuilt, standing today as a symbol of both spiritual tradition and wartime valor. :
