The main embankment is approximately 1 kilometer long and 15 to 20 feet high, reinforced with stone revetments on the water-facing side to prevent erosion. The "Sluice Gates" or Thumulu are made of stone and modern iron shutters, measuring about 5x5 feet, which regulate the flow of water to the canals. The total surface area of the tank when full covers nearly 100 to 150 acres of land.
