A Historical Hub for Indian Cricket: The Green Park Stadium is one of India's most revered and oldest cricket stadiums, established in 1945. Formerly known as Modi Stadium, it was named after a British woman, Madam Green, who used to practice horse riding here. Located in the heart of Kanpur on the banks of the Ganga River, it is the only international standard cricket stadium in Uttar Pradesh to host Test Matches and One-Day Internationals (ODIs), alongside the newer stadiums. It is managed solely by the sports department of the Uttar Pradesh government. The stadium is known for its unique feature of having the world's largest manually operated scoreboard, though modern electronic boards have also been installed. It has a seating capacity of around 32,000 spectators and has witnessed numerous historic cricketing moments, including the first Test match win against Australia in 1959-60 and record-breaking performances by legendary players. Despite modern renovations, the stadium has retained its classic charm and is surrounded by lush greenery, giving it a picturesque and serene setting. The crowd at Green Park is famously passionate and knowledgeable, often praised by international cricketers for their enthusiasm. Beyond cricket, it is a multi-purpose venue, also hosting local sporting events, cultural programs, and large public gatherings.
