How To Reach Green Park Stadium

Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India:
A Historical Hub for Indian Cricket: The Green Park Stadium is one of India's most revered and oldest cricket stadiums, established in 1945. Formerly known as Modi Stadium, it was named after a British woman, Madam Green, who used to practice horse riding here. Located in the heart of Kanpur on the banks of the Ganga River, it is the only international standard cricket stadium in Uttar Pradesh to host Test Matches and One-Day Internationals (ODIs), alongside the newer stadiums. It is managed solely by the sports department of the Uttar Pradesh government. The stadium is known for its unique feature of having the world's largest manually operated scoreboard, though modern electronic boards have also been installed. It has a seating capacity of around 32,000 spectators and has witnessed numerous historic cricketing moments, including the first Test match win against Australia in 1959-60 and record-breaking performances by legendary players. Despite modern renovations, the stadium has retained its classic charm and is surrounded by lush greenery, giving it a picturesque and serene setting. The crowd at Green Park is famously passionate and knowledgeable, often praised by international cricketers for their enthusiasm. Beyond cricket, it is a multi-purpose venue, also hosting local sporting events, cultural programs, and large public gatherings. The stadium's historic status and central location cement its place as a key landmark in Kanpur's cultural and sporting landscape. It is the spiritual home of cricket for the entire region and a symbol of the city's love for the game:

How to Reach

By Air: Kanpur Airport (KNU) is about 12 Kms away. A taxi or cab from the airport to the Civil Lines area is the easiest route, taking around 30-40 minutes. The route is generally direct through the city's main roads.

By Train: Kanpur Central Railway Station (CNB) is the closest major rail hub, located approximately 6 Kms from the stadium. This proximity makes it very easy to reach; a quick auto-rickshaw ride (about 15-20 minutes) or a cab will get you there. The station handles all major express and passenger trains across India.

By Road: The stadium is located in a prime, central location in the Civil Lines area, which is easily reachable from all parts of Kanpur. It is close to major city arteries and is a well-known landmark. State and local bus services run close to the area, with the nearest major bus stop being Bada Chauraha or the Rawatpur Bus Stand (approx. 5 Kms). Driving or taking a taxi is straightforward, though parking can be difficult on match days.

By Local Transport:

Due to its central position, access is simple: local auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws, and cycle-rickshaws constantly serve the area. Ride-sharing services are highly effective in reaching the stadium. The stadium's fame ensures that all local drivers know the exact location, simplifying navigation considerably:
