The Serene Isolation of Chaturbhuj Temple: Built around 1100 AD by the Chandela Dynasty, the Chaturbhuj Temple (meaning 'one with four arms') is a Vishnu temple that is notable for its isolated location in the Southern Group, outside the two main clusters. Its serene isolation contributes to a peace ful atmosphere far from the crowds. Most significantly, this is the only major temple in Khajuraho that faces west and is famously the only important temple completely devoid of the erotic carvings for which the site is internationally known. It houses an impressive, richly carved 9-foot tall idol of Lord Vishnu in the sanctum. The temple stands on a high platform (jagati) and is dedicated solely to devotion, making it a unique spiritual sanctuary.
