Adoni Fort
The historic Adoni Fort is a majestic fortification located in the Kurnool district. Dating back to the 15th century, it was initially constructed by the Vijayanagara Empire. The fort is perched atop a massive granite hill and is renowned for its strategic military importance. Over the centuries, it changed hands between the Bijapur Sultanate, the Mughals, and the British. It is often referred to as one of the largest forts in India, with its outer walls stretching over a distance of 50 kilometers. The fort is actually a massive complex consisting of 12 smaller sub-forts built over different eras. Visitors can explore various ruins, including the Nawab Darbar Hall, Jamia Masjid, and the Venu Gopala Temple. The site offers a panoramic view of the Adoni town and the surrounding rocky landscape.
