Ahobilam Temple

Yaganti, Andhra Pradesh, India
Ahobilam is a major pilgrimage center located in the Nallamala Forest. It is the place where, according to mythology, Lord Vishnu took the form of Narasimha to kill the demon Hiranyakashipu. The site is unique because it houses nine shrines dedicated to the nine forms of Narasimha. The temple comple x is divided into Lower Ahobilam and Upper Ahobilam. Lower Ahobilam is easily accessible and houses the Prahalada Varada temple. Upper Ahobilam is situated 8 KMs higher on the hills and requires a trek through dense forests. The entire region is considered sacred and is part of the 108 Divya Desams. The surroundings are filled with lush greenery, waterfalls, and steep cliffs. Pilgrims often undertake the challenging trek to visit all nine temples, which is believed to bring great spiritual merit. The Bhavanasini River flows through this region, adding to its sanctity. The atmosphere is deeply spiritual and serene, away from the city's noise. It is a perfect blend of divinity and natural beauty. Exploring all nine temples usually takes two full days.
