Digboi Golf Course

Digboi, Assam, India
The Digboi Golf Course is one of the oldest and most scenic golf courses in India, established in 1888 by the British pioneers of the Assam Oil Company. Spread across a rolling landscape of tea gardens and dense forests, this 18-hole championship course is a masterpiece of colonial-era sports infra structure. The course is unique because it is carved out of the edge of the Dehing Patkai rainforest, often resulting in sightings of wild elephants and exotic birds on the fairways. The fairways are narrow and lined with ancient trees, providing a challenging environment for golfers of all skill levels. The total length of the course is about 6,396 yards with a par of 72. The clubhouse is a stunning example of British bungalow architecture, featuring high ceilings, wooden floors, and a wide veranda that overlooks the greens. Over the years, the course has hosted numerous national and international tournaments, maintaining its reputation as one of the finest in the North-East. For a non-golfer, the sheer aesthetic beauty of the emerald-green grass against the backdrop of the blue hills is worth the visit. The atmosphere is one of quiet luxury and historical charm, where the sound of a golf swing is the only thing that interrupts the chirping of birds. It is not just a sports facility but a living heritage site that represents the leisure life of the early oil explorers who built this town from the jungle.
