Honnamana Kere Lake

Coorg, Karnataka, India
Honnamana Kere Lake is a place of immense natural beauty and deep religious significance. It is the largest natural lake in the Coorg region and is named after the local deity, Goddess Honnamma. According to legend, the Goddess sacrificed her life to save the village from a severe drought, and the lake is believed to have been formed in her honor. A temple dedicated to her stands adjacent to the lake, drawing pilgrims throughout the year. The lake is surrounded by massive cliffs, including the Gavi Betta and Mori Betta, and is nestled amidst sprawling coffee plantations and dense forests. The atmosphere here is exceptionally serene, making it a favorite for those seeking solitude. The water is clear, reflecting the green hills and the sky, creating a painterly landscape. It is also a site for the annual Gowri Festival, where locals gather to offer prayers and celebrate their heritage.
