Iruppu Falls

Coorg, Karnataka, India
Iruppu Falls is a breathtaking freshwater cascade located in the Brahmagiri Range of South Coorg. Also known as the Lakshmana Tirtha Falls, the waterfall has a significant place in Hindu mythology. It is believed that when Lord Rama and Lakshmana were searching for Sita, Lakshmana shot an arrow int o the Brahmagiri hills to fetch water for his brother, resulting in the birth of the Lakshmana Tirtha River. The falls drop from a height of about 170 feet in two distinct tiers, creating a thunderous sound and a misty atmosphere. To reach the falls, visitors must embark on a scenic trek through the forest, which is part of the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary. The path is well-maintained with bridge crossings over the stream. At the base of the hills, before the trek begins, lies the ancient Rameshwara Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The combination of spiritual significance and raw natural power makes Iruppu one of the most visited sites in the region.
