Hotels Near Bheema Kund

Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India
Bheema Kund, also referred to as Neelkund or Narada Kund, is a deeply sacred, naturally formed water tank located within a cave, steeped in the mythology of the Mahabharata era. The pool is famous for its stunningly deep, clear, indigo-blue water, a color that gives it the name Neelkund. Legend hold s that during the exile of the Pandavas, when Draupadi fainted from extreme thirst under the scorching sun (Surya), the immensely strong Bhim, one of the five Pandava brothers, struck the ground fiercely with his powerful mace (Gada). This mighty blow immediately caused a surge of water to burst forth from the earth, instantaneously creating this deep pool or kund. The opening in the cave's roof, directly above the pool, is often pointed out as the exact spot where Bhim's Gada impact occurred. Another associated legend suggests that the venerable Vedic sage, Narada, performed a celestial song (Gandharva Gaanam) in devotion to Lord Vishnu at this very spot. Lord Vishnu, pleased with the sage's dedication and divine music, manifested from the kund, and the water turned deep blue, mirroring the Lord's dark complexion. The depth of the kund remains an unsolved mystery, adding to its mystical aura and drawing researchers and explorers. The pool is located within a naturally formed cavern, about three meters from the cave entrance, and features a small Shivalinga to the left, indicating its importance in Hindu religious practices. The natural setting, the contrast of the blue water with the red cave walls, and the profound religious narrative make it an exceptionally significant pilgrimage and tourist destination. The water's transparency allows one to clearly observe fish swimming, symbolizing purity and life. The remote and tranquil location further enhances the spiritual and meditative atmosphere.
