How To Reach Eco Park

Patna, Bihar, India
Park's Genesis and Purpose: Eco Park, officially known as Rajdhani Vatika, was inaugurated in October 2011 by the then Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, following an initiative by the Department of Environment and Forest, Bihar. Its primary objective was to serve as an ecological lung for the rapidly ur banizing capital and, critically, to alleviate the massive footfall and recreational pressure on the nearby Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park (Patna Zoo). The park quickly established itself as a tranquil, refreshing, and organized alternative recreational space. Sprawling Greenery and Biodiversity: Spanning over a considerable area of 9.18 hectares (around 22.7 acres), the park boasts an extensive collection of flora, featuring more than 3,000 distinct varieties of plants, trees, and shrubs, carefully curated to enhance biodiversity and aesthetic appeal. This vast greenery provides a refreshing contrast to the concrete jungle of Patna. Major Sections and Connectivity: The park is thoughtfully divided into two main sections separated by a major road but seamlessly connected by a purpose-built underground tunnel, ensuring visitor safety and flow. The first section typically houses the main recreational areas, including the children's play zone, food court, and various decorative fountains. The second section is more theme-focused, featuring specialized gardens like Rashi Van, Guru Vatika, Panchwati, and Kewli Van, each offering a unique botanical or spiritual experience. It also contains the serene lake and boating facilities. The park receives a huge influx of visitors, averaging around 90,000 to 100,000 people monthly, demonstrating its status as Patna's most cherished public park, offering a much-needed retreat for relaxation and recreation.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest major airport is Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport (PAT), located in Patna itself. It is approximately 5-7 KMS from Eco Park. The airport connects Patna to all major metropolitan cities in India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru, with multiple daily flights. From the airport, one can hire a pre-paid taxi, Ola/Uber, or an auto-rickshaw to reach the park in about 15-30 minutes, depending on traffic, which is generally heavy around Patna.

By Train: The primary railway junction is Patna Junction (PNBE), which is one of the busiest railway stations in India and is situated approximately 7-8 KMS from the park. Patna is exceptionally well-connected to nearly all parts of the country by an extensive rail network. Another option is the Rajendra Nagar Terminal (RJPB), which is slightly farther. From any station, visitors can easily find auto-rickshaws, city buses, or app-based taxis for a direct ride to the park, which usually takes around 20-40 minutes.

By Road: Patna is excellently connected by National Highways and State Highways, including NH 31 and NH 19, making road travel a viable option from neighboring states like Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. The park is centrally located on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg (also known as Strand Road), one of the city’s major arteries. Visitors arriving by personal car will find ample parking facilities available at the park for a nominal fee. Public buses and inter-city taxis also regularly ply routes that stop near the New Secretariat, which is a short walk from the park entrance.

By Local Transport: The most popular and economical local transport options are auto-rickshaws (shared or hired) and app-based cab services (Ola/Uber). Auto-rickshaws are plentiful but require bargaining before the ride begins. Cycle-rickshaws are available for shorter distances. The park's location near the New Secretariat makes it a well-known landmark for all local transport operators, simplifying the journey.
