How To Reach Irinjalakuda Koodalmanikyam Temple

Thrissur, Kerala, India
Sacred Koodalmanikyam: The Irinjalakuda Koodalmanikyam Temple is a unique Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Bharata, the brother of Lord Rama. It is the only ancient temple in India where Lord Bharata is the presiding deity. The temple is part of the Nalambalam circuit, which involves visiting four tem ples dedicated to the four brothers. The deity is also known as Sangameshwara, meaning the 'Lord of Confluence'. The temple has a mystical history and is mentioned in stone inscriptions dating back to the 9th century. Unlike other Kerala temples, there are only three daily pujas here instead of five. There is no Deeparadhana (lamp ceremony) conducted, which is a very rare custom. The floral offerings are strictly limited to lotus, tulasi, and chethi. The temple is famous for its Mukkudi offering, an Ayurvedic medicinal preparation. The huge ponds surrounding the temple are believed to have healing properties. The presiding idol is carved from stone and stands over 6 feet tall. The atmosphere inside the temple is incredibly peaceful and spiritual. Devotees come here to seek relief from various ailments through special offerings. The temple management has historically played a role in the development of the Irinjalakuda town. It is a massive structure with grand walls and traditional gateways. The annual festival attracts thousands who witness the grand elephant procession. Non-Hindus are traditionally not allowed inside the inner sanctum. The temple preserves ancient rituals with great precision and devotion. It stands as a testament to Kerala's rich spiritual and cultural tapestry.
