How To Reach Rosemala View Point

Kollam, Kerala, India
The Rose of the Hills: Rosemala View Point is a hidden treasure tucked away deep within the Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary in Kollam. The place gets its name from the aerial view of the valley, which remarkably resembles the petals of a blooming rose. It is a remote and pristine destination that offe rs some of the most spectacular panoramic views in the Western Ghats. Unlike other tourist spots, Rosemala is not easily accessible, which has helped preserve its virgin beauty and peaceful atmosphere. It is a place where the air is pure, the silence is only broken by the chirping of birds, and the greenery stretches as far as the eye can see. A Journey through the Wilderness: The trip to Rosemala is as much about the journey as it is about the destination. To reach the viewpoint, one must travel through 10 kilometers of dense forest trails, often requiring a sturdy 4-wheel drive vehicle or a long trek. Along the way, travelers encounter small mountain streams, rare species of flora, and the occasional sighting of wildlife like deer or elephants. The path winds through hills and valleys, offering glimpses of the diverse ecosystem of the Western Ghats. It is an ideal spot for eco-tourists and adventure seekers who want to experience the forest in its most raw and unadulterated form. Overlooking the Reservoir: At the summit of Rosemala, visitors are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Thenmala Dam reservoir. The vast expanse of blue water surrounded by emerald hills creates a stunning contrast that is perfect for photography. The viewpoint also offers a clear sight of the meeting point of three rivers: the Umayar, Shenduriniyar, and Uriliyar. The village of Rosemala itself is a model for sustainable living, as many households rely on solar power. It is a destination that appeals to the soul, providing a sense of immense peace and a deep appreciation for the natural wonders of the world, away from any modern distractions.

How to Reach

By Air: Trivandrum International Airport (TRV) is the nearest, roughly 98 KMS away. A private taxi is the most comfortable way to reach the starting point of the forest trek.

By Train: Reach Kollam Junction or the smaller Aryankavu Railway Station. From Aryankavu, you will need to hire a local Jeep to navigate the remaining distance to Rosemala.

By Road: Drive to Aryankavu on the NH 744. From the Aryankavu junction, a forest road leads towards Rosemala. Note that the last 10 KMS are rugged and not suitable for standard sedans.

By Local Transport: The only reliable local transport for the final stretch is the 4x4 Forest Jeeps available at the Aryankavu or Thenmala junctions. These are essential for navigating the unpaved mountain paths safely.
