How to Reach
Flight to Agatti then Sea/Helicopter: The journey to the island, and thus the factory, starts with the flight from Kochi (COK) to Agatti (AGX), the nearest airport. From Agatti, the long inter-island transit to Minicoy (375 km) is facilitated by the regular Ship services or the limited Helicopter service, both heavily dependent on operational schedules. The ship is the most reliable carrier for the distance.
By Train and Road:
Only to the Mainland Gateway: As an island, Minicoy is entirely disconnected from the mainland road and rail network. The journey to the island must proceed from the mainland gateway of Kochi (Kerala), which is accessible by train (Ernakulam Junction) and road networks.
By Sea:
Ship from Kochi Direct: The preferred way to reach the island is by the scheduled passenger Ship from Kochi to Minicoy (398 km), a journey that takes approximately 16 to 20 hours. The factory is located relatively close to the main jetty where the ships dock.
By Local Transport on Minicoy:
Tempo and Foot: Once on Minicoy, the Tuna Canning Factory is typically located a few kilometers from the main jetty and the central villages. A local Tempo can be hired from the resort or jetty to take visitors directly to the factory site. Alternatively, a Bicycle ride along the winding, paved roads through the coconut groves is an enjoyable way to reach the location, as the island is small and traffic is minimal. The factory's dedicated fish landing jetty is right next to the complex.
