Karinja Cliff
Karinja Cliff is home to the stunning Karinjeshwara Temple, perched on a massive monolith 1,500 feet above sea level. This temple is unique as it is dedicated to both Lord Shiva (at the peak) and Goddess Parvati (halfway up). To reach the Shiva temple, devotees must climb exactly 555 stone steps ca rved into the hill. The climb offers breathtaking views of the Kodyamale reserve forest. Legend says the temple has existed across all four Yugas, known by different names like Roudra Giri and Bhima Shaila. The site is also linked to the Mahabharata, with ponds like Gadha Theertha said to be created by Bhima. The area is famous for its resident monkey population, who are fed ritualistically every day. At the summit, the air is thin and cool, and the view of the surrounding green canopy is unmatched. The temple architecture is simple yet sturdy, built to withstand the elements at such a height. It is a place where nature and spirituality merge perfectly. Many trekkers and pilgrims visit for the combination of physical exertion and divine peace. The silence at the top is only broken by the sound of temple bells and the wind. It remains one of the most scenic hill temples in Coastal Karnataka.
