Mookambika Temple, Kollur
Mookambika Temple in Kollur is one of the most sacred Shakti Peethas in India, nestled in the valley of the Kodachadri peak. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Mookambika, who is a manifestation of Shakti, Saraswathi, and Mahalakshmi. Legend has it that the great philosopher Adi Shankaracharya had a vision of the Goddess here and installed the Panchaloha idol. The main deity is a Swayambhu Linga with a golden line (Rekha) dividing it into two halves, representing Shiva and Shakti. The temple sits on the banks of the perennial Souparnika River, where devotees take a holy dip before entering. It is world-renowned for "Vidyarambham," a ritual where children are initiated into the world of alphabets and learning. The temple features a gold-plated Kalasam and beautiful copper roofs that shine in the sun. Surrounded by the lush greenery of the Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary, the setting is incredibly peaceful. Thousands of pilgrims from Kerala and Karnataka visit daily to seek blessings for education and success. The spiritual energy during the evening Deeparadhana is electric, with the sound of Vedic chants filling the air. It is considered one of the seven "Mukti Sthalas" of Karnataka.
