Mangadh Hill

Dahod, Gujarat, India
Historical Saga: Mangadh Hill is a site of immense historical and spiritual significance located on the border of Gujarat and Rajasthan. It is widely known as the Jallianwala Bagh of the Adivasis because of the tragic massacre that occurred here on November 17, 1913. During this event, British forc es opened fire on a gathering of thousands of Bhil tribals who were led by the social reformer Guru Govindgiri. It is estimated that nearly 1,500 innocent tribals lost their lives while fighting for their rights and religious freedom against the British Raj and local princely states. The hill today serves as a powerful memorial and a pilgrimage site for tribal communities from Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. Visitors come here to pay their respects at the Mangarh Dham monument, which honors the martyrs of the freedom struggle. The site is surrounded by lush green hills and offers a peaceful environment for reflection on India's tribal heritage. The Government of India declared it a National Monument in 2022, further cementing its place in national history. A dedicated museum has been constructed to showcase the life of Guru Govindgiri and the cultural evolution of the Bhil community. The panoramic views from the hilltop are breathtaking, especially during the monsoon when the entire landscape turns vibrant green. It is a place where history meets nature, providing a somber yet inspiring experience for every traveler.
